Let’s not assume that our youth and young adults have the knowledge and skills that they need to in order to live successful lives now and in the future.
Let’s talk to them. Let’s ask questions. Let’s work to ensure that they have the answers, information and tools that they need in order to succeed.
There are so many marvelous aspects of this tour.
I am dedicated to helping to ensure that Generation Marvelous is well-educated. (Karen Felice Allen Well-Educated, that is.) Generation Marvelous is the name that I have given to those who are 0-30 years old.
In order to be Karen Felice Allen Well-Educated, individuals must be knowledgeable. Individuals must have the knowledge that they need in order to succeed.
It is so important that Generation Marvelous knows how to find and evaluate information.
There are so many sources of information. Unfortunately, not all sources are credible.
An important part of Karen Felice Allen’s Marvelous Knowledge Acquisition Tour is helping individuals to identify credible sources of information.
Another important part of Karen Felice Allen’s Marvelous Knowledge Acquisition Tour is helping individuals to evaluate the information that they come across.
1. We will explore news sources and stories. It is important that Generation Marvelous be able identify factual news.
Spending time consuming information from a variety of resources, including online sources, is a part of everyday life for many of our youth and young adults.
Unfortunately, some of these sources are not reliable sources of quality, fact-based information.
This should be cause for concern for us all.
Why?
Our youth and young adults are so incredibly important to the world that we live in today and to the future that is to come. It is imperative that they have access to factual information about issues regarding the world around them.
After all, they likely are making decisions about important matters based on the knowledge that they are acquiring from unreliable resources.
I am sure that you will agree that we must do our best to help youth and young adults connect to #RealNews. I believe that this involves several important steps.
One step involves helping our youth and young adults to connect to time-tested, reliable sources of fact-based information.
Another important part of this process involves helping our youth and young adults to embrace and implement a strategy for evaluating information.
As many of you already know, I am dediated to helping youth and young adults to become well-educated. (More specifically, Karen Felice Allen Well-Educated!)
Helping to connect our youth and young adults to great information is an important part of my work so, of course, I am taking on this huge, and exciting project of helping our youth and young adults as they work to identify and evaluate quality sources of information.
We are going to be exploring global, national, state and local stories. We are going to connect with, and hopefully gain valuable insight from, global, national, state and local journalists.
This is only the beginning. The start. I will share more as we move forward and as things evolve. Please stay tuned! Thank you for your time, concern and involvement.
2. We will also explore how to identify and evaluate sources of information and information needed for research purposes. As students and workers, members of Generation Marvelous may be called upon to engage in research projects. It is important that they be able to identify credible sources of information. They must also be able to think critically and evaluate the information that they find.
3. Right now we are going to help our youth and young adults by accessing what they know and by helping them to acquire what they need in order to succeed.
How will this work?
1. I will post questions about topics and issues that I believe our youth and young adults should be knowledgeable about if they are to live successfully.
2. You are encouraged to discuss the questions with the youth and young adults that you care about. (Of course, you encouraged to decide what questions to ask each youth and young adult in your life based on factors such as the age appropriateness of each question. For instance, some may be more suitable for young adults than for youth.)
3. I will provide time for you to address the question with your youth and young adults.
4. I will then provide answers. This may include, but may not be limited to, sharing my own views. It may include sharing links to answers from others, including leaders and experts. I may also share links to additional information and resources about the issues and topics at hand.
